A message from the President
We call it "Walking the Walk". Among the companies in the environmental contracting community, Ferro Canada is the first to take up the mantle and earn itself a zero carbon footprint.
It's not easy. Any company involved with construction, demolition, and
the abatement of organic and inorganic hazardous materials is going to
use specialized equipment and methods that are not, by nature, carbon
neutral and eco-friendly. But we've made this commitment and we intend
to stick to it.
As part of our commitment towards sustainability, Ferro Canada has undertaken the following projects as first steps to reduce our environmental impact:
- An internal program for reducing energy use
- A retrofit of our office lighting systems
- Leading the introduction of a paper recycling program to our neighbourhood of offices
- Calculating our corporate greenhouse gas emissions from the year 2008
- Offsetting tonnes and tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through the
purchasing of Canadian carbon offsets - offsets that make an impact in
CANADIAN backyards and can be quantified so we KNOW that we are making a difference.
We would like to invite others in our community, both associates and
competitors, to join us in this commitment. You can access any one of
many carbon footprint calculators online to determine your impact on the
planet (we particularly like carbonzero.ca), and learn strategies to
reduce that footprint. Excellent organizations such as the David Suzuki
Foundation can further inform your efforts. Together, we may just turn
the tide.
So bottom line - are you just talking the talk or are you ready to walk
the walk?
